COMPOSER IN DEMAND
No artist wants to be type cast and when he left Guildhall in 1990 Lester
Barnes was writing jingles and documentary soundtracks, but in the TV schedules
today Lester’s music is frequently found in the most popular shows for
kids.
Paz, which started out in the US where
it has been thrice nominated for the Emmys, is now a huge success on CITV and
throughout Europe; while on Cbeebies Lester’s theme tune for Our
Planet is heard several times every day not to mention music for The
Fimbles and Roly Mo Show.
Adding to this success comes Horrid Henry on ITV - based on the best selling
books by Francesca Simon - proving a huge hit with 8-10 year olds (and their
parents)! with Lester’s extensive, dramatic scoring bringing the dastardly character
to life. Lester is currently scoring the second half of the series.
If
working on these shows wasn’t enough Lester is also writing for the 52 episode series Mama
Mirabelle’s Home Movies for the BBC and National Geographic US. Each
10 minute episode involves songs - performed by Vanessa Williams for the US edition
and Floella Benjamin for the BBC broadcast - and incidental music.
Already working 24/7, before Christmas Lester was called in to write the theme tune and songs for the hit series Me
Too! for Cbeebies.
In between times he’s also squeezed in the odd TV advert for companies such as Rebok, and continues to be a mentor to young musicians wanting to experience life in a bustling media music studio.
